It's a pretty good interview and discussion here. I really can't believe that Eastwood would appear at a GOP convention where banning abortion and banning gay marriage are front and center in the platform.
GQ: Yeah, but maybe between the movies you have some political feelings. [to Eastwood] You've described yourself as a social libertarian. What does that mean to you?
Clint Eastwood: I was an Eisenhower Republican when I started out at 21, because he promised to get us out of the Korean War. And over the years, I realized there was a Republican philosophy that I liked. And then they lost it. And libertarians had more of it. Because what I really believe is, Let's spend a little more time leaving everybody alone. These people who are making a big deal out of gay marriage? I don't give a fuck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We're making a big deal out of things we shouldn't be making a deal out of.
If you review actual GOP legislation in states where they have the majority and review votes in US House, you'll see the focus has been on social issues and not jobs or stimulating the economy, etc.
A small government does not do these things.
It makes no sense to me and I can't be the only one.
This is not partisan, this is only reviewing the facts - away from cable TV.
Yep, that "laser-like focus on jobs" has produced more legislation on abortion, women's rights, gay rights than any time in history... And NOT ONE SINGLE piece of legislation on JOBS...
yeah, I knew that before he appeared. I know that folks are hard core republican don't give a rat's ass about what else Clint had to say earlier or that he has a movie coming out, but I just wish folks would stop for a few minutes, breath, do some real work to find the facts and not live in a bubble of partisan news and then make informed decisions, but I am not holding my breath.
Saturday's show of UP with Chris Hayes touched on this very topic - NEWS REPORTERS reporting facts. Most news starts with local REAL reporters doing a REAL reporter's job and then they are picked up by national news/cable, etc. With the collapse of many newspapers in local markets and the remainder being bought up for folks with a political agenda, then there are no more local checks and balances. You know if the Denver Post put up a story leaving out critical details to favor a certain political viewpoint, then the Rocky News would call them out on it or vice versa.
so now, we have "3rd Party Fact Checkers" to try to hold reporting accountable and even that is found to have partisan views from time to time. It is getting very hard to get information that is not filtered anymore.
