Michelle Obama, Julian Castro energize Charlotte

Michelle Obama wasn’t the only speaker here in Charlotte to lean heavily on the personal side of things: San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, the convention’s keynote speaker, drew on his family’s immigrant past to praise the Obama administration’s approach to education, immigration, the auto industry and more.

Like the first lady, Castro delivered a values- and character-focused pleas for the president’s campaign, and dismissed the Republican Party’s economic agenda as a set of recycled and discredited ideas.

“We all understand that freedom isn’t free. What Romney and Ryan don’t understand is that neither is opportunity. We have to invest in it,” Castro said. “Republicans tell us that if the most prosperous among us do even better, that somehow the rest of us will too. Folks, we’ve heard that before.”

I thought the speeches last night were as bland as they get, just a regurgitation of the past 4 years of failed policy.

All I kept hearing was how we need to educate everyone with government money. We will have the best educated un-employed generation the world has ever known, and no way to pay all that borrowed money back.

Oh- and over and over- how Obama repealed "dont ask- dont tell". Pretty weak accomplishments.

If bailing out the car companies was his biggest accomplishment- he's toast. Anyone can throw billions of taxpayer dollars at a private business and keep it afloat for a few more years.

Give me 200 billion dollars of the people's money- and I can keep some businesses going too- for a while.
