The venue where Pauline Marois intended to celebrate the Parti Quebecois’ Quebec election win has become a crime scene after a gunman opened fire during her victory speech.
Police said one man was killed and another was injured during the shooting at Metropolis concert hall on St. Catherine Street in downtown Montreal.
When the gunfire erupted, Marois was delivering what was supposed to be a historic speech as Quebec’s first woman premier. Provincial bodyguards had to usher the new premier off stage.
“The shooter also managed to throw some kind of Molotov cocktail, lighting a fire in the venue,” CTV News Channel’s Todd van der Heyden reported Wednesday morning.
