Romney, a man of science?

So the Mittster decides to comment on science this weekend. First, this weekend, he complained because airplane windows do not roll down. Uh, Mitt, what do you think would happen if someone rolled down their window at 35,000 feet. There is a reason why airplane windows are sealed. Maybe you could ask the Navy to put screen doors on their submarines while you are at.

Then, earlier this year he bragged about cold fusion (remember cold fusion?) being discovered by scientests at the University of Utah. Mmm, cold fusion was debunked as a total fraud, Mitt.

There are still plenty of researchers studying cold fusion...

U.S. Navy researchers at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR) in San Diego, have been studying cold fusion since 1989.[68][82] In 2002, they released a two-volume report, "Thermal and nuclear aspects of the Pd/D2O system," with a plea for funding.[83] This and other published papers prompted the 2004 DOE review.[68]

A grant of $5.5 million given by Sidney Kimmel in February 2012 to the University of Missouri will be used to establish the Sidney Kimmel Institute for Nuclear Renaissance (SKINR). The grant is intended to support research into the interactions of hydrogen with palladium, nickel or platinum at extreme conditions.[14][84][85][86]

In January 2011 inventor Andrea Rossi together with researcher Sergio Focardi from the University of Bologna claimed to have successfully demonstrated commercially viable cold fusion in a device called an Energy Catalyzer. Other inventors and start-up companies have made similar claims in the past, however commercial devices are never available on the market.

Even 60 Minutes did a story on cold fusion. Watch and judge for yourself...

Maybe he saw The Saint and thought it was a documentary about cold fusion and our main enemy Russia.

Your original post (with no link) said no such thing that mitt said cold fusion was "solved". Why are you rewording it now? I was responding to what you said in your first post that cold fusion was debunked as a "total fraud".

The 60 Minutes piece was from 2009, but that was still 20 years after the Utah scientists announced it (and they interview one of them). As I said, watch it, and judge for yourself.

Here is Romney's direct quote.

. I believe in laboratories, looking at ways to conduct electricity with -- with cold fusion, if we can come up with it. It was the University of Utah that solved that

Of course what do you expect from someone who wants to be able to roll down the window of his Gulfstream so he can pull up next to another Gulfstream to ask for "Grey Poupon".

Replied by FredHayek on topic Romney, a man of science?
Guess what, the first planes were open cockpit. And I have flown in a WWII bomber hanging out the side gunports/windows waving at the people below so windows are possible. And you don't think it might be a little levity on the campaign trail?
