Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency published a story Friday claiming that a Gallup poll found that rural white Americans prefer Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over President Barack Obama.
Such a poll would indeed be big news in Iran (and the United States) -- if it were true.
But the source was The Onion, the publication that presents the outlandish as real news. What sets Fars apart from others, however, is that the agency published the Onion story as if it were its own.
This is my favorite quote from the story, knowing that a semi-respectable news agency actually published this as their own (did they even read it before copying and posting it??): The phony {West Virginia] resident then lauded Ahmadinejad: "He takes national defense seriously, and he'd never let some gay protesters tell him how to run his country like Obama does."
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
Someday the regulators will get around to requiring a "Satire Parody" warning label on these "news" sites. I imagine many people get duped who are not familiar with the Onion. LOL In this case they were probably aware but used it anyway.
If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2
Republicans are red, democrats are blue, neither of them, gives a flip about you.

Just got an email from Grampa's aunt (one of those Fwd:fwd:fwd:fwd deals) saying that Obama has a son, showing a pic of him with Obama, and a very lengthy article. Auntie asked why the MSM was hiding this information. I wrote back explaining The Onion and ended with "You really ought to google stuff before you forward it. It makes you look silly."
