What would be the motivation of the Administration to mislead the public about this incident? Wouldn't it have been a golden opportunity to show the world that the United States of America doesn't tolerate terrorism against our citizens and allies around the world? Shouldn't a swift military response translate into higher popularity at the polls?

Could it be that the administration was busy covering the incident up with full knowledge that the Department of State completely botched the security coverage for the Consulate in Benghazi? How many other US diplomatic facilities have insufficient security coverage?
