Obama said in September 2008 he believes the United States needs a missile defense system in part because of the nuclear threat North Korea poses. Then in 2010, Obama begins the decommissioning of our missile defense system.

Sarah Palin got it wrong, she can see North Korea from her front porch.

It wasn't totally decommissioned, just the untested system of long-range interceptors that Bush had been pushing - a system that had never been tested in the real world and was largely negatively reviewed as being viable and reliable and affordable.

The United States is overhauling Bush-era plans for a missile defense shield in Europe, based partly on the latest analysis of Iran's offensive capabilities, President Obama said Thursday.

"This new approach provides a better missile defense capability for our forces in Europe, for our European allies and eventually for our homeland than the program I recommended almost three years ago," said Gates, who was defense chief in the last two years of the Bush administration and stayed on when Obama took office.

"The system that President George W. Bush proposed ... would have deployed interceptor missiles that had yet to be tested under real-world conditions to defend against long-range missiles that Iran had yet to develop," said the council's senior vice president, James Lindsay.

"Meanwhile, the interceptors would have been useless against the short- and medium-range missiles that Iran is rapidly developing," he said in a written statement.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

If things break out in the Korean peninsula we know it won’t be a guerrilla action. We’ll see masses of troops against superior fire power.

North Korea is bullying because nobody wants to destroy them and get their population as refugees. China in particular doesn't want a flood of underfed, undereducated North Koreans crossing the border

Have to agree. It cost billions to bring East Germans up to western levels and they are still spending, to care for the malnourished peasants of North Korea would take billions more.

The few North Koreans that do manage to defect to the ROK are smaller and less intelligent because of malnourishment and a poor school system. I would love to see North Korea assimilated into the south, but I sure wouldn't want to pay for it.
