Gas prices jump as refineries shut ahead of storm

The supply of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel into the East Coast ground virtually to a halt Monday as Hurricane Sandy forced the closure of two-thirds of the region's refineries, its biggest pipeline, and most major ports.

Gasoline prices jumped as much as 11 cents a gallon on commodities markets as traders feared that power outages and flooding could leave refiners struggling to restore operations after the broadest storm ever to hit the United States. Prices later pared gains to close up about 6 cents a gallon at $2.757.

As Sandy neared the coast refinery, pipeline, port and terminal operators shuttered or reduced operations, increasing the risk that bottlenecks would keep fuel supplies from reaching customers.

Oh... And isn't it about time for usual breit-bots to start grousing about gas-prices? I guess the closing of the refineries in advance of the hurricane are somehow Obama's fault....

And I wonder how long we'll go before someone starts FINALLY CONNECTING THE DOTS between "climate change" and a VERY rare hurricane/jet-stream/snowstorm once-in-a-lifetime "perfect storm" in the last week of October? Yeah...probably just a coincidence... And the earth is flat...and it's only 6,000 years old... rofllol

So, insert standard "It's Obama's fault" garbage here: ______________________________________

And insert standard "Climate change? What climate change?" stupidity here: __________________________________

Obama has disappointed many lefties by refusing to make global warming a big issue in this election, never once mentioning it in the three debates.
I guess when under your watch 45 million people were forced onto food stamps just to be able to eat, and an eight percent average of unemployment, Obama have more to worry about than climate change.

Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.

They also shut down one of the Nuclear plants, which I think might have been done after what happened in Japan. Smart move regardless.
What has and is going on over on the east coast has nothing to do with the President, though I am glad politics was put aside for this, and global warming, don't know enough about it to say anything dealing with it.

How soon they forget...

Hurricane Donna in the 1960 Atlantic hurricane season was a Cape Verde-type hurricane which moved across the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispanola, Cuba, The Bahamas, and every state on the East Coast of the United States. Hurricane Donna holds the record for retaining major hurricane status (Category 3 or greater on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale) in the Atlantic Basin for the longest period of time. For nine days, September 2 to September 11, Donna consistently had maximum sustained winds of at least 115 mph (185 km/h). From the time it became a tropical depression to when it dissipated after becoming an extratropical storm, Donna roamed the Atlantic from August 29 to September 14, a total of 17 days. While crossing the Atlantic, Donna briefly achieved Category 5 strength.

Donna caused considerable and widespread damage from the Carolinas through New York. Beaufort County, South Carolina, for example, saw many trees uprooted, power lines downed, homes unroofed, piers destroyed, and significant damage to corn and soybean crops. Wind gusts of 105 miles per hour (169 km/h) were reported from the Eastern Shore of Chesapeake Bay. Maximum sustained winds of 105 mph (169 km/h) with gusts of 115 mph (185 km/h) were reported from Long Island and Rhode Island.[16] Storm surge values reached 11 ft (3.4 m) in New York Harbor, which wrecked area piers.[17] A resort area in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey saw its boardwalk and tourist attractions destroyed by the hurricane, and the area has never recovered.

Blue Hill Observatory in Massachusetts reported gusts to over 145 mph (233 km/h).

I was there in 1960... Brooklyn NY. I guess when you live through a whole generation like I have, the current crop of younger citizens just don't remember things like this. Hurricane Donna was everything if not more than Hurricane Sandy is. That doesn't make anything "better" for the folks that have been effected by Sandy, but can we stop promoting disasters like they were the bigger and best in a movie franchise?

Waiting for Armageddon since 33 AD
