Should you be allowed to bring concealed guns to the library

Would such a ban have stopped Holmes, if the answer is no, stop this stupid discussion, just because the govt has the right, does not mean they have to use it to accomplish nothing.

A more accurate question would be: "Does the library have the right to restrict concealed carry?"

They can post all the signs they want, but if the signs are disregarded the penalty is tresspassing:

18-4-504 Third Degree Criminal Trespass

(1) A person commits the crime of third degree criminal trespass if such person unlawfully enters or remains in or upon premises of another.
(2) Third degree criminal trespass is a class 1 petty offense, but:
(a) It is a class 3 misdemeanor if the premises have been classified by the county assessor for the county in which the land is situated as agricultural land pursuant to section 39-1-102 (1.6), C.R.S.; and
(b) It is a class 5 felony if the person trespasses on premises so classified as agricultural land with the intent to commit a felony thereon.

Of course the only persons who will obey the signs are lawfully armed citizens. The bad guys will ignore them. :bash

According to Justice Scalia and the Supreme Court in the Heller decision, the answer is absolutely yes.

Too often goverment forgets they are there to serve citizens. "Let's exclude people we disagree with" Even if legal concealed carry has been shown to be very safe since it passed years ago.

Actually that is incorrect. Under 18-12-105, it is a class 2 misdemeanor to carry a concealed weapon where prohibited. A class 2 misdemeanor is punishable by 3 - 12 months in jail and/or $250 - $1000 fine.

Hmmm...I'll double-check that - according to my source material a sign has no force of law in Colorado; 18-12-105(1.a.c) exempts concealed handgun permit holders except of course in the usual prohibited places - federal buildings, etc.

But no matter - I see in the news this morning that the library approved concealed carry. Still has to pass the city council.
