How would you put the 51st star on the flag?

Could we be adding a state?

Looks like it won a commonwealth referendum for statehood and Obama has already expressed support if there was a majority locally that support it.

There are some that say that the vote was not done properly, wording or something.

Interesting. a few million more federal votes - they could then vote for president, would get senators and representatives per 4 million.

I don't think R's will like this - they are brown, speak Spanish and may be perceived as a welfare state.

Yo.

Put one big star over the 50 stars. The big star could represent Texas. (Kidding!)

Adding Puerto Rico would be a plum for the Dems, and advocates of billingualism, would we become like Canada that way? Probably makes some sense for the US to go bilingual since most of the growth in population is Latino.

Why is this not on the mainstream news? It could be the biggest political pull of the decade. It would sell ads.

I think the stars on the new flag should be arranged in the "hammer and sickle" shape which more accurately represents America today.

I would welcome the new state though.

I think it would be smart for the US to deny them statehood, but DC doesn't work that way.

Because I think they would be more expensive to assimilate than they produce. And forcing Puerto Rico to follow all the rules other states have to do on work rules, OSHA, ADA, etc, would hurt their economy. I was talking to an old timer about when Alaska became a state and it took a long time and lots of money to bring the former territory "up to code".

I think we should remove the star for Florida and replace it with Puerto Rico. New rule: If you can't finish counting the presidential election within 3 days for three elections in a row you lose statehood.

Good point about Florida, I was shocked to see this morning that they still aren't done counting. Has the Christian right replaced computers with abacuses?

We could take the opportunity of changing the flag to add 10 more states.
1) Puerto Rico
2) NYC
3) Chicago
4) LA
5) Philly
6) LA
7) San Francisco
8) Miami
9) Detroit
10) DC

The Dems would love that because they would get a bunch of new senators and reps and the Republicans would love it because the rural areas of states like Illinois wouldn't be outvoted by Chicago.
