He told Joe The Plumber he was going to spread it around and now the proof is in.

Private pay shrinks to historic lows

The trend is not sustainable, says University of Michigan economist Donald Grimes. Reason: The federal government depends on private wages to generate income taxes to pay for its ever-more-expensive programs. Government-generated income is taxed at lower rates or not at all, he says. "This is really important," Grimes says.

I only read the title of this thread and all I have to say is, thats great. It needs to be redistributed. The middle class (thats you and me) is going away in the country. If we kept on the course Bush put us on the top 1% would own everything and the rest of us would live in squalor. And your Avatar is ridiculous. Obama just took all our money and gave it to private corporations. Nothing could be farther from socialism. You don't even know the meaning of the word.

I have heard the old canard that the middle class has been disappearing since the 1970's.

Until the last couple years, more people have owned homes than every before. People are living in bigger houses, own more cars, more kids are going to college.
I think people get all nostalgic about the old days, but I remember the 70's as a much poorer decade than now.

Back on topic, it does seem than private workers are really taking it on the chin, and this flows down to local goverment workers. You can't get taxes if people aren't earning money.
I have even thought about getting a federal job, they are hiring and their wages and benefits are rising compared to everybody else.

Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.

That is so far from the truth I don't even have a responce for it. And I know you love to try and stir things up but even you have to know that what you just wrote it totally untrue. And do you really want wealth redistributed? That is Marxism 101. Have been trying to figure you out. Are you a Marxist?

Great post BTW. Yeah they had a story on the wages of the private jobs compared to the same jobs in the Federal sector and the average was something like $50,000 for the private sector jobs but if you have the same job in the government your average pay will be around $79,000. I will have to find the story so don't quote me on the exact numbers.

Then look what happens when you add in the benefits of a government job. It is double. $120,000 compared to $60,000

I don't know what you're talking about Viking but wages have been a flat line since Ronald Reagan was president, and that did'nt happen by accident.
