Everyone was talking about trends before the recent election.

I have a trend that has not been broken now for 20 years in presidential politics. Before 20 years ago it was a very different marketing world (the election is ALL about marketing).

Is it possible for a presidential incumbent to be replaced anymore? The person in office always has such a command over the content of the media. In this age of megamegamegamega hype, can the one getting years of hype actually loose?

I will put forth right now that whoever is elected president in 4 years will be elected again in 8, so please vote like you are voting for an 8 year term.

I would tend to agree with you. The only notable incumbents who lost were Jimmy Carter who had a 3rd party person taking the vote, and the first George Bush who had Perot in the mix. Maybe the only way for Romney to win was have Bloomberg run as a pro-business/pro social rights to steal some of the vote from Barack. Even taking 5% of the vote for Barack would have turned the battle ground states upside down.

I agree with you except I don't think Bush had command over the media, he was villified and critiqued much more than Obama who was given softballs for his first term. It is a huge advantage being the encumbent, even when the economy is in the toilet as long as the media gives their support. I think Bush was reelected because people still had 9/11 on the brain and wanted to stay safe and the economy was improving after it looked like it was going to collapse. Hillary will be the next president no matter what because she'll get the media support even when the economy still sucks (and it will suck).

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
