Jim DeMint To Heritage Foundation: Senator To Leave Position To Run Think Tank

South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint (R) is leaving Congress to take over as president of the Heritage Foundation, the Wall Street Journal reports.

DeMint, who was reelected to a second term in 2010, will replace Ed Feulner, who had been planning to step down from the top spot at Heritage. Feulner will be named chancellor of Heritage and will continue working part-time as chairman of the foundation's Asian Studies Center.

DeMint had stated he was not planning to seek re-election when his current term was scheduled to end in 2016.

 That means he won't be part of this upcoming congress.... Looks like another special-election for South Carolina....

It isn't much fun to be a member of a minority party. And now he can wash his hands of the fiscal cliff.

Since he was responsible for recruiting such talents as Christine O'Donnell, Aikens, Ken Buck and other stellar Tea Party candidates, he will be sorely missed. By the Democrats.

Yes, in fact, here's a cute nugget from the latest "15-seconds-of-fame":

Sarah Palin said, “Right now the GOP establishment is more concerned about the opinion of the media and the Georgetown cocktail circuit than they are ‘we the people’ who hired them.”

WHAT?!?!? Wait a minute....The person who quit halfway through the first term as a governor to worry about making money, being a "media figure", and make an impression in the 'Georgetown cocktail parties' (rather than worrying about ‘we the people’ who hired [her]) is trying to hang that on the the "GOP establishment"????

You can't make this stuff up...

But I agree with Dog.. DeMint will be sorely missed---by the Democrats.
