"Pictures and calendars featuring half-naked women will be stripped from U.S. Air Force work spaces and public areas under a widespread inspection to stamp out sexual assault in the armed forces.

Commanders and supervisors in all active, reserve and Air National Guard units have 10 days to complete the sweep for pin-up images or materials reminiscent of the all-male military from 20 or 30 years ago.

Air Force chief General Mark Welsh said having a culture where such objectification of women is tolerated may be contributing to reports of sexual assault increasing to more than 700 this year in the Air Force alone.

Really? There have been pinups for decades.

There have been sexual assaults for decades, too.

As the OP said, "Air Force chief General Mark Welsh said having a culture where such objectification of women is tolerated may be contributing to reports of sexual assault increasing to more than 700 this year in the Air Force alone."

Does that mean they have to take down the pix of half naked men? Just wondering.

IN NOVEMBER 2014, WE HAVE A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO CLEAN OUT THE ENTIRE HOUSE AND ONE-THIRD OF THE SENATE! DONT BLOW IT!

“When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex. Only whit man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.” Indian Chief Two Eagles

If I don't get to see Female pinup art of chesticals on DoD installations then Male pinup art of chesticals should also be banned, it's only fair. No body gets to paint, post, or otherwise display any artistic representation of chesticals of any kind.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Don't worry, my opinion has very little bearing on National Policies of any kind!

Actually it will be funny to see how DoD personnel react to this decree, never under estimate the inventiveness of Enlisted Men and Women and their ability to read the fine print in any order. "But Chief, the order specifically says "...No public display of..." you had to open my locker and move a piece of my clothing to see that..."

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

So pin-up calendars cause sexual assaults? What about the clothes women wear? Should they require burkas for females on airbases too?

Replied by Rick on topic The end of the airman's pin-up

I think the cure would be to have all military women try as hard as possible to look like this:

No burka neccessary!

Sexual assaults are not about sex, they're about power and domination over another; what women wear has no bearing. They increase in an atmosphere in which a group is objectified and disrespected. Pin-up calendars do not cause sexual assaults, but they do not help the culture of it being acceptable because women have already been objectified.

Banning pin-up calendars is dumb, considering the pervasiveness of sexualized, objectifying advertising in our society and continued brainwashing of kids that men are the hormonally-controlled pursuers, and women are supposed to be the responsible moral brakes and sex is bad so we aren't going to honestly talk about it and its consequences. What they need to do is institute training and education, but that's more involved time- and expense-wise so it won't happen.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
