Some day maybe the militias will take over and then they'll be fighting each other for control. Just because they all call themselves militia doesn't mean they have the same goals or objectives.
But I agree about too much federal money going to LE. It's part of that Homeland Security funding that was approved after 9/11. The government was throwing money at police departments.
Well the people are not as smart as they used to be. They have been duped into believing saftey comes with loss of freedom. Through the media and the government.
You cannot turn on the news without some media type telling you how to dress for cold, how to protect your kid, how to protect your car, dog etc etc etc.
People cannot think for themselves.
Off topic but in nazi Germany people were duped into thinking giving up their arms for the comfort of saftey was a good thing. That turned out well.
plaidvillain wrote: Sorry if I drifted from the original topic, Bob...I agree with you about the police. I see no need for local small town police forces to have these technologies. Seems once upon a time, one police force in the area would have a SWAT team...now Morrison has SWAT? Everyone has SWAT?
So now police forces are acquiring drones and other military technologies due to provisions in the bail outs that provides additional funding for homeland security purposes? So what can we do about it? Certainly we can contact our congress reps and express our opinion, but will enough people recognize the freedom and privacy they're sacrificing for the (perceived) increased security?

Indeed, what can we do about it. I see only two possibilities.
Human nature being what it is we must pass a law that all people must be born saints. Or we can limit the size scope and budget of government.
DHS, State, and Local law Enforcement are becoming paramilitary organizations and they are receiving the funding to train and equip themselves in that manner. Should voters continue to fund them in the name of preventing and responding to domestic terrorism? Define the word terrorist.
Is it any member of al Qaeda, the Taliban, or the Badder Meinhoff Gang? It is citizens who agree with Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, perhaps any member of a State or Local Militia? Is it anyone who stands up to the current Administration and other Snollygosters? Someone who owns "too many of the wrong types of guns" by some arbitrary Gubment definition and/or continues to prepare to survive any number of possible disasters, natural and man made?
Perhaps it's not nearly as complex as any of those answers, perhaps it is simply those individuals who defy the US Gubment by believing that they can survive without the current form of Gubment in the US and have the resolve, tools, and knowledge to do so.
When the majority of a community has more fear and apprehension of their Law Enforcement organizations than trust it is clearly time to make changes or suffer the consequences of inaction.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
