America the ugly

America the ugly was created by Blazer Bob
"Nine years ago a group of history professors from the University of Minnesota sent a letter to the state’s education department. They complained that the history/social-studies standards for Minnesota presented American history too positively. The historians wanted early American history described in terms of “conquest,” “subjugation,” “exploitation,” “enslavement,” and “genocidal impact.” For these academics, the story of America primarily meant slavery for African Americans, genocide for American Indians, subjugation for women, xenophobia for immigrants, and exploitation for poor people.

It looks like the Minnesota academics have finally achieved their goal. This Thursday, December 20, the Minnesota Department of Education will hold a public hearing before approving new standards that emphasize, among other things, “institutional racism.”

As Carlin said:
"This country was founded by a group of slave owners who wanted to be. Am I right? A group of slave owners who wanted to be free! So they killed a lot of white English people in order to continue owning their black African people, so they could wipe out the rest of the red Indian people, in order to move west and steal the rest of the land from the brown Mexican people, giving them a place to take off and drop their nuclear weapons on the yellow Japanese people. You know what the motto for this country ought to be? 'You give us a color, we'll wipe it out.'"

We Americans (only white male Americans) should just commit mass suicide to repent for the sins of those evil white
men before us. It's really the only way to ensure real justice.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I love my country, but that sounds like part of our history to me. Just like if someone asked what happened in America last week. Those writing history will talk about school shootings, but that is not what happened to most of America last week, what happened to most of us was we got less opportunity than the week before. But that would make the winners look bad, so keep that out of the books.

But, then again, history is written by the winners, we know that, we know that history is not fact, history is retroactive marketing, history is a channel on cable TV designed to sell commercials. There is no incentive in history for accounts to reflect what actually happened, and every incentive to do the opposite. You went out to play cards with the buddies, you get home and your wife asks you how much money you lost.......you lie, perhaps only a little. Ever hear of a resume, that's a personal history right? yeah right.

Perhaps there is another word for the losers' account of the past, but the word is not history.

Perhaps a good question or challenge to put this away from our country would be for someone here to describe the history of Germany in as many words as you quoted. What events do you think defined Germany over the last 100-200 years. Roses or puppy poop, what's gonna come up. Now what if we let a 28 year old man from Germany that served in their military recently take the same challenge for his own country and it would be interesting to Compare and Contrast them.

It would also be interesting to read the accounts of American history in other country's text books. Anyone know what they say about our history in other countries?
