Obama Administration Abandons Jailed Marine

But he declared the gun to Mexican authorities so they locked him up instead of just denying admittance like they should have done.
Sounds like just the miscarriage of justice the State Department is supposed to help Americans trapped in foreign lands.
I realize he was stupid to be doing what he did, but the penalty for stupid has already been paid a long time ago.
Hopefully Team Hilary will get the poor guy out for Christmas.

According to the article, the parents and the ex marine only requested assistance from the State Department recently, and they are meeting with Mexican authorities this week. The fact is that the ex marine crossed onto the Mexican soil with a firearm, and at a border crossing that is heavily threatened with drug cartels. he broke their laws. Despite your OP, the only person to blame is himself.

Looks like he needs "lawyers, guns and money", well obviously not guns.

The stupid kids who hiked into Iran got help from the US even though they broke the law. Why does a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan get ignored?

Former Marine jailed in Mexico for committing a crime...And "the Obama Administration" is supposed to get involved with every fool who gets caught doing something stupid in Mexico?

OK, wrap it up... Another b.s. "outrage-of-the-day" distortion....

This kid did commit a crime in Mexico.....we may not agree with the law, but then a lot of foreigners don't agree with our laws. I find it hard to understand why anyone would expect the president to be involved on this.

According to the kid's parents he was trying to legally bring the antique shotgun in to Mexico for a hunting trip. Apparently he was still at the border when he was grabbed.

What he failed to research was the legality of carrying that weapon in Mexico, it isn't legal. If you were headed to mexico, and wanted to take a weapon, wouldn't you check if it was legal to do so? Sure the Americans said it was legal to take it through their customs....but on the Mexican side that gun is illegal. He was stopped after he had gone through American customs and was technically in Mexican territory.

I agree the kid should be given a slap on the wrist and sent back to the US.....I hate to see people severely punished for stupidity.....but it is not the presidents job to fix this.....a good lawyer is his best bet.
