Journalism just ain't what it used to be.

I've had arguments with people before that television news is a lot worse than print news - because it's visual, it affects us emotionally so much worse than a print article that you have time to digest and analyze critically for content, and don't get bombarded with disturbing images and lack of time to process what you are seeing. Because TV is on 24/7 they will throw out anything they hear just to be first, without spending time to fact-check, or investigate. They absolutely offer that emotional high and people get hooked on it, and don't ask "what aren't they covering" or "what did they get wrong". I don't know if the fix will happen at the media level first without people complaining and/or turning them off, or if it will take people finally getting disgusted enough and realizing that they are receiving crappy service from these "news" stations to force the media to improve. Probably a little of both, but I don't see it happening anytime soon - our society doesn't value critical thinking and people wait for others to step up and do something first, rather than doing it themselves.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Add the internet to this. How many people google something find a blog that caters to their belief system and pass that information as fact. I see it on almost every message board that I have visited.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting to see what the liberal media posted during the elections. Not at all unbiased in their reporting.

IN NOVEMBER 2014, WE HAVE A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO CLEAN OUT THE ENTIRE HOUSE AND ONE-THIRD OF THE SENATE! DONT BLOW IT!

“When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex. Only whit man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.” Indian Chief Two Eagles

All of the networks do this and get their viewers whipped up into an emotional frenzy. I don't care if it is FOX, MSNBC, CNN etc. They all sensationalize the stories to get ratings and cater to the fears of their base supporters. In the world of 24/7 news I would classify them as video tabloids not news channels.
