Transportation is one of the worthwhile ways to spend public money unless the transportation system is owned by a private company. Tax money should not be used to enrich a private company. Last time I checked we don't have a government railway or an airline. At least with airplanes a private citizen can use the airports and airways not so much on a rail line.
