Gyms: Are They Churches For A Modern America?

Stole this from the Economist:
1)People set up resolutions in the New Year to go to the gym more religiously, sometimes daily, most churches only ask you to go once or twice a week.
2) People go to the gyms after nights of excess to relieve their guilt.
3) Penance, release from your sins is done through reps of weights instead of repetitions of prayer.

:newconfetti: I thought all the people planning to workout more this year would like to read this. Personally I am going to take the dogs for a three mile walk today at 15F so a cozy gym actually sounds good right now.

Happy new year.

I think many things have replaced churches, just as churches have replaced many things.

I still contend that political parties are the new religions. People usually don't kill others over their gym routines, but they will over their religion and politics as both often seek to control the lives of others.

Happy New year - may this one have less shooters, less elections, less bitching and more snow.

My resolution this year? To gain 30 pounds and to reach a new high in blood pressure!
