Oh no, Lithium batteries on Airplanes now! Yikes! Lucky it was parked on the ground.

"An electrical fire filled the cabin of a Japan Airlines Boeing 787 with smoke Monday minutes after passengers disembarked following a non-stop flight from Tokyo.

The Massachusetts Port Authority’s fire chief, Bob Donahue, said the fire at Boston’s Logan Airport began in a battery pack for the plane’s auxiliary power unit, which runs the jet’s electrical systems when it’s not getting power from its engines."

One of my buddies is a engineer working on this project, I am going to give him so much grief.

Just goes to show that every problem can not be fixed with medication. Lithium is for bi-polar and that's it!

I'm thinking these batteries need a built in auto-chemical fire extinguisher pack (like buildings have sprinklers), the tiniest internal mfg. defect can set these off, and its going to be a continuing problem. With cars too.

Labtops use them too! :)

I saw a video of a laptop catching on fire and burning through the table. Scary.

More problems for the 787, now Japan is grounding all their (787) planes. Not good.

Sorry to see this happen for Boeing, this plane is very new and advanced, but these leaps in technology come with risks. Good luck Boeing!

Looks like they didn't work out all the bugs. The Boeing union engineers are threatening to strike this year. Bad time to have your problem solvers walking a picket line. Should help negotiations.
