The conventional thinking is that less people are buying guns but they people that do buy them are buying many.
So gunowners used to just have maybe a deer rifle and a shotgun, but now they also own a couple pistols, a couple different shotguns, a couple .22's for the kids.

But I think many people are worried about others finding out they own guns so they lie to pollsters and deny they have any guns.
I know a couple people who pretend they don't own guns to most everyone they talk to.

There also have been many boating accidents where folks lost their firearms.

Mine were shipped from the UK to America on the Titanic. Finally saw them in the James Cameron documentary a few years ago.

Boating accidents seem to becoming more common.

Per my eye interpolation of the graph, household owner ship has declined from 43 -32% (11)

Personal ownership from 26-21% (5)

How does that work. Seems to me every household has to have at least one gun owner. Unless houses own guns independent of people ??

Am I missing something or misformating the data?

Never mind, my senior moment is past. Since there are more people than house holds, 3 people in one house holds having boating accidents can decrease the % of house holds faster than people.

Numerous polls and surveys all show that the number of individuals purchasing firearms is greatly declining. Since gun sales have grown considerably, it is an easy conclusion that a minority are stockpiling firearms for whatever reason.
