I'm not sure every state can count on hitting a massive underground oil reservoir, like North Dakota, which is about 99% rural.

An energy independent America might significantly change the current world order.
No more wars for oil, right? No more reason for US troops and diplomats to spend time keeping the region stable. Would China have to increase their military to fill in the vaccuum?

Oil exporters like Venezuela and Russia might have economic issues as demand and prices decrease.
