Our rulers refuse to take effective measures to slow down the flow of terrorists and Third World colonists pouring over the southern border, but at least they're cracking down on unlicensed barbers in Florida:
As many as 14 armed Orange County deputies, including narcotics agents, stormed Strictly Skillz barbershop during business hours on a Saturday in August, handcuffing barbers in front of customers during a busy back-to-school weekend.
It was just one of a series of unprecedented raid-style inspections the Orange County Sheriff's Office recently conducted with a state regulating agency, targeting several predominantly black- and Hispanic-owned barbershops in the Pine Hills area.
In "sweeps" on Aug. 21 and Sept. 17 targeting at least nine shops, deputies arrested 37 people — the majority charged with "barbering without a license" …
And goverment isn't intiating this, it is current barbers who want to limit people entering the industry so they make it expensive and time consuming to get certified. Pretty soon you won't be able to shampoo your own hair without a goverment form.

State and local law enforcement groups want wireless providers to store detailed information about your SMS messages for at least two years -- in case they're needed for future criminal investigations.
Upon first glance I took the title of the post to be a rhetorical question, after reading the article I'm left wondering how Barbers can command so much control over local Law Enforcement. Are unlicensed Barbers the biggest threat to the population of Orange County Florida?
I can't speak to the veracity of the license of the last guy that shaved my head nor am I worried about it. I been going to the same guy for 10 plus years and every time the result is the same, walk in with too much hair and walk out with a respectable haircut that will pass inspection (if beards were still allowed in the Navy).
As for getting a new life insurance policy, to quote Chevy Chase in the movie Fletch, "...using the whole fist doc?" Not relevant to the OP? I'll take "what is Obamacare for $1000.00 Alex."
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

I never even thought of that angle. I suppose the interested parties that stand to profit could have directly influenced law enforcement.
I had presumed that the politicians who passed the laws or empowered the regulatory agency would have given the nudge. Even though I do know it, I tend to think of big gov. as just the elected and not the millions of functionaries they employ.

Really? Seems to me this is a bit overboard response to unlicensed barbers. Either there is a lot more to the story, or this is a significant waste of taxpayer $$, and an abuse of government power, IMO.

I expect there is a back story. This is just a microcosm of what ,I and I think other libertarian leaning people see as a a growing problem.
