Per the New York Times, and quoted in the 1/25/13 issue of The Week, about 80,000 people were caught lying about prior criminal records when attempting to buy a gun in 2010. Only 44 of them were charged with a crime.
If they aren't going to enforce these laws, why are they planning to pass more laws?

Prosecute those who commit crimes with guns.
And as soon as it is the biggest issue we face in general, we should do something about it, until then, focus on the other bigger issues or we have deprioritized life and safety so that some people can feel good. That is a big price.
I would argue that it does not even make sense to enforce the current laws if this is not the best use of police to make people more safe. If there are more pressing enforcement issues in general, I have no issues with these laws not being enforced, but this certainly would mean that there should be no more NEW regs.

We don't enforce existing immigration laws, tax laws, or drunk driving laws as we should. Why should we expect the government to enforce existing gun laws?
