"I know that every generation that gets into its forties believes firmly that the world is going to hell. But this time
'.....

" Our culture seems like a big machine that's racking itself to bits. Parts keep flying off. Parts that are important. Decency, dignity, morality. We've all gone impulsive.Anything you want to is all right, provided your urge is strong enough."

I just came accross this in a book I am reading, "Planet Of The Dreamers".

It was written in 1951.

In a day and age when having children out of wedlock is normal, not being able and/or willing to support those children through hard work, and expecting the Gubment to provide the population with everything they want because they feel they are entitled, I can see how many arrive at the "end of the world" scenario.

It's a good thing many of us get up and go to work on a regular basis, someone has to pay the bills around here.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

It's the same old story, generation after generation. The world marches on, as it should. I, for one, prefer to live in the world we have now rather than any bygone era. The blessings of our ancestors accrue with every generation. We are blessed, and the saddest thing is to fail to acknowledge it. This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice, and be glad in it.

My fear is that the blessings meant to pass on will be a financial burden that our children and their children will not be able to bear. i like the thought of passing something better on though. It offers a kind of hope.

That's the giant elephant in the room that is being ignored right now... this massive growing debt. Unless we have courageous leaders who are willing to make tough and painful decisions now, we WILL ruin the future for our future generations. Sometimes I think these blind politicians believe we can just file for national bankruptcy one day and just restart fresh without debt.

I watched a report the other night that was about what a boom town Washington DC was. Money flowing in every direction.

Do you think they judge all of America based on the economy in DC?

I just don't think many of them care. They have their money, they have their power, and they have each other to justify their complacency and lack of meaningful leadership that is needed to fix the problem

Some much of the economy is now related to government spending it has really created a lopsidedness. I was talking with a couple civil engineers who were working on a project to replace perfectly fine bridges but they weren't going to refuse the government money.
