That's the giant elephant in the room that is being ignored right now... this massive growing debt. Unless we have courageous leaders who are willing to make tough and painful decisions now, we WILL ruin the future for our future generations. Sometimes I think these blind politicians believe we can just file for national bankruptcy one day and just restart fresh without debt.

There is a path to national bankruptcy but it does not come without pain.

Apathy is all I am hearing from most of my Conservative friends lately. Just enjoy what is left for the next decade or so while we dig this hole even deeper. Really, I now see us looking more like Japan than Greece in the future, massive debt, Government enforced low interest rates, and malaise- no growth except inflation. Better to put your efforts into planning and adapting than fighting it.

Our "courageous" leaders will only act when there is a crisis or deadline. And they will protect their own wealth with their inside knowledge.

If you want to be, press one. If you want not to be, press 2

That's the part that really pisses me off. These people are supposedly working for us, they are supposed to be looking out for our best interests (including our future interests). I wish there was a way to ask each member of congress, including the prez and vp, what are the top three problems in this country... in order of importance. I wonder how many would have our exploding debt as #1? And then I wonder how many Americans actually care.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Barry's list probably goes something like this:

1) Not having to go to Congress every time he gets a "good" idea. Executive Orders from the CIC are good enough.
2) Getting 50% of the 1%'s wealth and redistributing it to the 47%.
3) Those pesky, antiquated term limit laws. Time to draft another Executive Order.

I'm willing to bet that some of the other life time Snollygosters lists would not be very different. What do the People think? If they are on the take I'm betting they are more concerned about getting as many entitlements as they can while they can get them. I wonder if it occurs to the takers that the wealth in our Nation is finite and we are at the bottom of a $16 trillion dollar hole that gets deeper every day.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford

Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

Neither side gives a damn about the country. The pit us against each other so we don't object to their bald attempts to cement their power bases at our expense. Posters who pretend "their" side is somehow better than the other side are fooling themselves and perpetuating the problem. Until we hold OUR sides feet to the fire, nothing will change.

Both sides have taken stands and refuse to budge.

Many Republicans will not discuss tax increases or defense cuts.

Many Democrats will not consider certain entitlement reforms or budget cuts besides defense.

To have any compromise and get things done, everything needs to be on the table. It really bothers me when one side says something must be off the table before any negotiations can begin, or one side takes a pledge for political points which they probably can't keep.

Actually in national polling, it looks like people are willing to freeze the budget across the board and increase taxes to get the debt under control, so maybe we are underestimating our fellow Americans.

And I would like people to consider this point, the goverment is such a huge part of the economy and so many businesses have set themselves up to having goverment orders being a significant percentage of their business, would it be better to decrease their dependence?

Just like a bear that will keep returning to a bird feeder if we keep filling it up, should businesses have to work harder like a bear and work for their business and consumer sales. Maybe business should be spending more on salesman instead of lobbyists?
