I don't see your private forum adding threads or participation to 285Bound, I see it just moving threads and topics to a different forum where they can be moderated under different rules, and by an exclusive moderator. I know you can't delete posts, but banishing them to the garbage bucket is essentially the same thing. Hey, you bought it and that is your right.....but that doesn't mean I have to like the trend.

If you know how it started why did you say this?

archer wrote: Wow, it sure didn't take long to start down the slippery slope. First it was " we just want to get the personal insults out of the courthouse"........now we are moving on (down to?) moderating off topic responses, .

Because what you do reflects on the entire 285Bound board, and the experience of posters here.

Perhaps you should start your own board and show us all how it should be done.

Bob, how old is your private forum?
Are you on a learning curve as to how you want it to perform or what your expectations of it are?

I have read several admonitions by you archer about how others treat SC or 285bound in the past.
With all due respect, you might want to review those admonitions of yours and ask if you see any behavior you have condemned within your own self.
The nature and fundamental premise of this board has not changed at all. You simply want to find fault with a little housekeeping.
I own a shirt that proclaims a dubious distinction. First banned from PC. I treasure it. My roots are even deeper than yours on both websites and I see no resemblance in this site to the other. No one is being banned. Nothing is being deleted. Folks are just simply exploring ways to raise the bar of dialog and debate here.
I would hope that folks would not harass a member who has been willing to step up and be part of a solution as opposed to being part of the problem, in the hopes that they might just throw in the towel.
I have learned a lot since this forum went up. I feel free to read different points of view and give them rightful thought. I have been able to explore some topics in which I knew very little about and dig a bit deeper into their facts to better educate myself.
Good on you Bob and to SC for exploring this idea of a private forum.
I personally think it was genius.

Why yes I did, and I still believe in more civil discussions......but I never advocated for greater moderation. We can do much with "peer pressure" without resorting to increased moderation. Moving offending posts to the Ring or to the Bit Bucket is moderation, pure and simple. Of course I have participated in the uncivil behavior, I don't think you will find any post where I claimed I didn't....I meet insult with insult when attacked. AND I STILL DON'T THINK WE SHOULD BE MODERATING THAT OUT.

Wrong again, I find fault with a trend I have seen in many other boards that have gone before us.....and I would hate to see this board go the same way. Excuse me for caring about what happens here

When did asking questions and stating an opinion, in a civil manner, become harassment?

I have no problem with Bob having his own forum (though I do wonder why he didn't start his own board), I have a problem with one forum looking like it is part of 285Bound when it really isn't because it has.....and appears it will have more of, different and more stringent moderation.

Just my opinion, OK? I would like to think that opinions would be welcome, even when others don't agree. If Bob's forum does not allow, or I guess more accurately does not want, dissenting or opposing views then I guess maybe Bob should make that clear. He hasn't....so I am making the assumption that I can post here.

lol . I assume those are rhetorical questions. I was close to quiting before I even started. SC sucked me in. It is all her fault.

LOL Bob. I completely understand.

Yes archer opinions are valuable. The issue may be with how they are presented.

Why yes I did, and I still believe in more civil discussions......but I never advocated for greater moderation. We can do much with "peer pressure" without resorting to increased moderation. Yet, though you don't realize it....you are employing a certain brand of peer pressure yourself that you don't seem to recognize. JMO
From the beginning of this website..... a certain amount of housekeeping has existed. Perhaps it was done effortlessly so as to not draw attention to itself but it has existed from the beginning.
Many posts have been moved to the ring since the beginning. It is nothing new.
It does not go unnoticed what has been moved lately and who seems to be yelling the loudest about what you perceive to be change.
My earlier participation at this website does not give me any larger stake in opinion but I do think I can speak with a little more knowledge as to the intent.
You see moving posts or threads as moderation. I see it as housekeeping and organization.
Some believe their comments are sarcasm and others see them as personal attacks.
A good business person listens to their customers and reacts accordingly within reasonable constraints.
Last I looked, 285freetalk was still up and running.
Why did you leave that site?
Were you looking for a debate or dialog?
This site belongs to SC. She is NOT doing anything different. She is just doing what was necessary all along. Had all of us behaved as adults, she would have had nothing to do at all.
I am sorry that you see it differently.

Still the oh so gentle hints that I should be posting anywhere but here.

No...that is not my intention at all archer. You just assumed that.

I am merely asking you to attempt to see something from someone else's point of view.
I have actually enjoyed the dialogs with you here in Bob's forum.

edited to add....archer you know me better than that. I don't have a "gentle" bone in my body.

I just don't understand your resistance to any positive change archer. There is no slippery slope here... just people gravitating to a more peaceful and non-berating debate. I would laugh my butt off if LJ was left all alone in the CH with only her choir to read her nasty comments. But sadly, some people still have a strange urge to be her pinata and keep that hate machine running strong.

It takes time for positive change and it takes people who actually want it. Sorry you don't feel the same way. My "on topic" suggestion was just that, a suggestion for select topics in which the OP can expect a discussinon of the subject to it's end. I see no "slippery slope" here.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Perhaps you should purchase a "private forum" and show us exactly how it should be run.

It's not a great leap to assume you would not like me to be posting any criticism here.

For you, this was all very gentle.

Rick, you don't see what I see....it's my opinion, and apparently it is shared by a few other posters here. What you see as positive change, I see as an attempt to stifle the very freedoms this board promised from the start. If posting my opinion get's me accused of being someone's choir, or a pinata, or whatever your obsession with LJ leads you to post this week, so be it. Perhaps if you stopped with such attacks on LJ and others on the left, the posts you so abhor would diminish

Rick posted

somebody strays off course, the next guy could put up a :Off Topic for easy moderation. I know it might be a bit hard for some at first, but you don't have to join in the talk if you are unable to stay on point. Isn't that what is demanded in a courthouse? Woudn't some more serious threads go further down the rabbit hole instead of just getting scrambled up with side show distractions?

I believe this suggestion is fundamental to this debate.
I read that to state that perhaps we could "self" moderate in order to have a more succinct debate.

Self Moderation is really the ultimate goal here.......right?
