somebody strays off course, the next guy could put up a :Off Topic for easy moderation. I know it might be a bit hard for some at first, but you don't have to join in the talk if you are unable to stay on point. Isn't that what is demanded in a courthouse? Woudn't some more serious threads go further down the rabbit hole instead of just getting scrambled up with side show distractions?

I believe this suggestion is fundamental to this debate.
I read that to state that perhaps we could "self" moderate in order to have a more succinct debate.

Self Moderation is really the ultimate goal here.......right?

Self moderate means you take care of moderating your OWN posts.......your example is "peer pressure" which I have no problem with.....moving the post to another forum, that is moderation.

Why did you leave that site?

Perhaps you should purchase a "private forum" and show us exactly how it should be run.

It's not a great leap to assume you would not like me to be posting any criticism here.

For you, this was all very gentle.

Rick, you don't see what I see....it's my opinion, and apparently it is shared by a few other posters here. What you see as positive change, I see as an attempt to stifle the very freedoms this board promised from the start. If posting my opinion get's me accused of being someone's choir, or a pinata, or whatever your obsession with LJ leads you to post this week, so be it. Perhaps if you stopped with such attacks on LJ and others on the left, the posts you so abhor would diminish

The evidence is in the courthouse in every thread that is filled with "you idiot teabagger blah blah blah" Even when I ignore, the thread still gets diverted and poluted as others take the bait and ruin the discussion.

Just give this a chance before you throw a wet rag on the idea and say it won't work. Nothiing in the courthouse has change other than giving people a small place where something more positive and more productive has a chance. The more resistance I see to this forum, the more I want to be here (strange seeing a mean heartless conservative wanting peace right?)

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I'm not saying it won't work Rick, I have no doubt that it will work. But Pinecam works too, for those that like that kind of board, and this will too.....but the essential nature of the board has changed, and I am sorry to see that.

and I respectfully disagree.
Question for you archer.
Wouldn't "self" moderation be preferable to you?

Not sure what you are asking......preferable over what? We have all been self moderating here, and that is what the board was designed for......and we all have differing ideas of what is acceptable and what is not. If a thread gets too nasty we have the choice to participate, or not...... to criticize the offensive poster, or not.......if a thread goes way off course, we have the choice to try and bring it back on track, or call out those responsible for it, or move on....whatever.....well, we don't have to make those decisions anymore, the moderation will do that. Some of the best threads we have had start as one topic and morph to another......some of the best humor we have had starts with an attack and ends up being diffused into humor.

The problem is that some have not self moderated and that has become a huge problem for the board as a whole.
Have you ever read the descriptions of the ring and the courthouse.
Perhaps you might want to go back to the beginning of both of those forums and reread and research their evolutions.
Another question for you.
If a majority of people feel that sarcasm is indeed a personal attack, is their opinion valuable or is that sensibility simply left to your discretion?
I believe that many have tried a lot of different approaches such as those you suggested without much success. What then archer?

My example is actually no different than the suggestions you posed.
Interesting.

Every opinion is valuable....where have I ever said otherwise? Why are you having such an issue with me stating my opinion? THAT is what this board is supposed to be. I haven't attacked or insulted anyone here, just posted what I personally think of the changes happening here. I am fine with the fact that you don't see it that way.....I am not fine with suggesting it is because I haven't read the rules....or that I should probably be posting on some other board, or that I shouldn't post in Bob's private forum that I guess is now really a private forum not a hosted forum.

Do a majority of people think sarcasm is a personal attack? I didn't know that.

I don't have a problem archer. I thought we were discussing an issue.
Unfortunately....you assume to much in your post. JMO.

Sorry, but you sure are posting like you have a problem with me stating my opinion. What assumptions have I made?
