Timbuktu & Alexandria Too?

The burning of the library in Alexandria centuries ago alwasy really bothered me, all that knowledge and history lost.

And now it looks like the Islamist rebel forces in Mali are also burning families libraries, rare collections of centuries old Sufi works.

I really want to give Islam a fair shake, they have made such beautiful works in the past but then I see crap like this, destruction of the Buddhist statues in Afghanistan, and trying to prevent women from being educated.

Are we just seeing the ignorant 1% here? The intolerant a-holes?

Fred.... I find many of your stories and posts interesting but get a little tired of having to hunt them down.

Very sad news. So much history lost.

I heard the story on at least three news sources this morning, KOA, to NPR, to Yahoo, and this destruction of Sufi artifacts has been going on for months.

We understand that, but inasmuch as I wasn't on 3 different news sources this morning, being occupied with other matters, I'd really appreciate a link.
