Creationism, Climate Change/Denial Out Of CO Schools
Bill That Encouraged Creationism And Denial Of Climate Change In Colorado Classrooms Dies In Committee

A Republican bill that would have paved the way for creationism to be taught in Colorado schools as well as encouraged teachers to deny the science of climate change was killed in committee on Monday, as expected.

Democrats on the House Committee on Education voted 7-6 rejecting House Bill 13-1089 and also voted 7-6 to indefinitely shelve future considerations of the bill.

"This victory in Colorado was too close," Eugenie Scott, executive director of the National Center for Science Education said. "People in Colorado and elsewhere need to understand that these bills would be nothing but trouble: scientifically misleading, pedagogically unnecessary, and likely to produce administrative, legal, and economic headaches."

Wow... Some measure of SANITY is finally returning to the classrooms... 'Bout time...

It wouldn't have gone anywhere in this Dem House anyway, waste of time for everyone concerned.

It was a waste of time with or without Dem control. I'm glad they kept the creationism and denier-silliness out of the classroom. Classrooms are about SCIENCE...Not superstition and right-wing science-denial.

Classrooms are only about science? Maybe yours, but I learned about superstition, fables, other religions, meterology, and creationism too.

And just because it is fictional, is no reason to deny it.

If they want to teach it in "Creative Fiction", that's fine... But that's in the English Department... Not the Science Department... (Of course, I realize most on the far-Right don't know the difference.)
