Drive In Massachussets/Spend A Year In Jail

Massachussets is shutting down today, after 4PM, drivers face jail time for driving in the snowstorm Nemo. Sounds pretty extreme. I know Colorado will close state highways occasionally like 285 in South Park when it is icy with bad winds, but don't remember a statewide driving ban.

This was NY earlier today, I don't think they need any laws to tell people to stay off the road!

Another view of the hundreds of stuck vehicles in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. This is RT 25 through the area near a walmart. Many have been stranded since yesterday evening! Some were rescued by snowmobile. Near 30 inches of snow fell with drifts 5 feet or higher!

But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

Man would I have been in trouble. When the Thanksgiving Blizzard of '83 struck Colorado, I was living in Evergreen and my girlfriend was living off I-225 and Mississippi (gas was a lot less expensive back then). I shoveled out my Datsun 710 (rear wheel drive), put chains on and went down to be with the girlfriend on Thanksgiving even though 74, 285 and a few of the other roads along my path were officially closed as a result of the storm. Never once thought about being fined or jailed for driving down a closed road. Love does indeed make fools out of us all.

We skipped the roadblock too on I-25 that year. My wife's family got some extra guests when her friends were unable to leave for Christmas.
