Changing Demographics: Japan

A couple stats were on Mike Rosen's show. Japan's population has been aging rapidly and the young aren't having more kids. This has resulted in a couple interesting stats, this year more adult diapers were sold there than for babies. And pretty soon, more Japanese will be turning 100 years old than being born.

Wow, I wonder how many years it will take for their population to be cut in half, 30 years? And who will support all those elders? Plus the country is very insular and doesn't permit much imigration at all.

How would you solve this as a society? $50,000 in tax credits for new births?

China might have the same issues coming soon, after decades of the one child policy, the supply of labor has actually decreased this year.
So every kid has to support by themselves two parents and four grandparents.

Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
