Sabre rattling? Or do you think they are ready to make a move against South Korea and American bases?

I think it is all just hype, but hope I am right. The country is very poor but they still have a huge army and Seoul is very close. I haven't heard if the US and South Korea are doing anything like mobilizing reserves.

It seems likely that Un is taking a negotiating stance. Let's hope so any way, otherwise things could go downhill, fast.

A very long time ago I participated in war games with Korean Marines on the Korean peninsula. Korean Marines are very serious about who they are and what they do.

Kim Jong Un seems to be following in his dad's footsteps, nuttier than a port-a-potty at a peanut festival. There are joint US-SK military exercises (Key Resolve and Foal Eagle) going on right now and that is what Kim Jong Un is attributing as the reason for his actions. I get the logic behind not wanting some of the best equipped, best trained military forces conducting military exercises so close to the boarder. I think the more appropriate response would have been to increase NK military forces readiness levels while silently acknowledging that NK has no chance of successfully conducting much more than a first strike.

Logistically right now would be a very bad time for NK to take any military action against SK because the US and SK forces are just across the border and all geared up and practicing what they would do in real life if/when it comes down to it. No need to re-arm the units conducting live fire exercises, just redirect them to new objectives. Units running blank rounds can be quickly issued live rounds and munitions then sent to real objectives.

Reminds me of Saddam Hussein's tactics leading up to Desert Storm, move a couple of columns of armor and infantry toward the Kuwaiti border and see what happens. If the Allies respond by threatening additional UN sanctions then continue to proceed south until Allied forces and weapons are sent into the region to respond to the threat.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
