WASHINGTON — Speaker John A. Boehner suggested Thursday that candidates and personalities – not Republican proposals on Medicare and spending cuts – contributed to Republican losses in November.
In short, Mr. Boehner, Republican of Ohio, said in an interview, the election losses would not deter his party from pressing its vision of reducing the size of government and turning government health care programs largely over to the private sector.
They maintained their majority in the House of Representatives, so at least locally it appears their message still works in many parts of the country. Or do you think they should adopt the Dem model of spending 850 billion more than you are taking in every year?
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
Yes their message still works in many parts of the country....but they lost the national election and they lost their attempt to gain senate seats...and they lost a few seats in the house......
But yet Boehner claims it isn't the message, it's the messengers........I beg to differ.
The American people seem to have rejected the GOP's social agenda, do you disagree with that? The American people have shown a willingness to ask for more revenue from the top 2% and from closing tax loopholes for those same people and from corporations.....do you disagree with that? The American people appear to agree more with Democrat's priorities on where to cut spending and where not to than with the GOP's......do you disagree with that?
However, if Boehner and the rest of the Republicans will not address the realities of where their message failed, they will continue to lose national elections and possibly lose more house seats. IMHO.
Oh....forgot to mention...What model is it that you claim the Democrats have proposed that will spend 850 billion more than we are taking in?

I think personality has a lot to do with who wins elections. Just look at the Bush elections... I think a more charismatic candidate could have beaten him both times. I think there is a pretty good percentage of people who vote for the guy/gal they like which ends up tipping the scales in the end. Gore was like a robot and Kerry was kinda 'Lurch-like' and wasn't the kind of guy you would want to have a beer with.
And as for the message, my belief is that too many voters are 'educated' more from the nasty tv commercials than they are from paying attention to what is going on in Washington throughout the year. I believe the people on this forum are a minority ,while the majority of voters pay far less attention to politics until it's time to vote.
And we may need to reach 30 trillion in debt before the MSM decides to give that as much attention as the net worth of a rich candidate. JMO
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
SEN. RAND PAUL (R-KY): The GOP of old has grown stale and moss-covered. I don't think we need to name any names, do we? Our party is encumbered by an inconsistent approach to freedom. The new GOP will need to embrace liberty in both the economic and the personal sphere. If we're going to have a Republican party that can win, liberty needs to be the backbone of the GOP. We must have a message that is broad, our vision must be broad, and that vision must be based on freedom.
There are millions of Americans, young and old, native and immigrant, black, white and brown, who simply seek to live free, to practice a religion, free to choose where their kids go to school, free to choose their own health care, free to keep the fruits of their labor, free to live without government constantly being on their back. I will stand for them. I will stand for you. I will stand for our prosperity and our freedom, and I ask everyone who values liberty to stand with me. Thank you. God bless America.
