This is about a Broncos player, and I suppose it could go under the sports thread. But I'm looking at it as a legal issue.
Yes, cheating is wrong. But this is about $15 of cheating and it's a felony? A possible 1-6 years in jail? I'd of thrown him out of the place for that. And no need to create another hole in the desert.
Denver Broncos safety Quinton Carter is facing felony charges in Nevada alleging that he cheated at a craps game last weekend at a Las Vegas-area casino, authorities said Thursday.
Carter, 24, was arrested late Saturday at the Texas Station casino in North Las Vegas. Security officials reported he was videotaped adding a $5 chip to three bets after the dice already rolled, according to a police report. Carter denied wrongdoing when police arrived.
Carter faces three counts of committing a fraudulent act in a gaming establishment, a felony in Nevada that carries a possible sentence of one to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Of course one could ask why he would cheat for $15 when he is making an NFL salary...
I'm not up to speed on gaming laws but I know back in the day in Vegas this is kind of stunt that could earn you a few selective punches to specific parts of your body, maybe a broken arm or leg, and a boot from a big shoe in your hind end. Most Vegas casinos would ban anyone who is caught cheating no matter the stakes and press charges. Carter is likely caught up in that kind of situation; the stakes aren't the issue.
As a younger man I quickly learned the hard way that casinos don't keep the lights on by giving money away. If/when I am in a casino I determine how much money I'm willing to part with in return for "free" drinks and "complimentary goods and services", usually between $40 and $60. When the money is gone I move on (and not to another casino, quit while you are only down a few bucks).
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
