Senator Rob Portman (R) Supports Gay Marriage

Think the Republican Party is about to change their thoughts about this? To me it does look like the social libertarians are getting a little more pull.

No disrespect to Rob Portman, but changing your view now that it is personal is not necessarily a change of heart. This is nothing new for many on the conservative side.....condemn a social issue....like homosexuality, birth control, abortion.....until it is your family involved, then suddenly you have a "change of heart".....kinda like Chaney did with gay rights. I am unimpressed. I don't think it signals anything about the pull of social libertarians....unless a whole lot more Republican kids come out of the closet, in droves......I believe that conservatives will still staunchly defend their intolerance, until that intolerance affects them personally.

Well there are too many families that choose to reject their homosexual children rather than their beliefs.

I think having a loved one involved can bring a new perspective. I know it did for me. Now that it is more acceptable for gays to be out I believe that many will find themselves with a gay child, sibling or friend and will have to re-examine old prejudices. I don't see how this can be anything but good.

I think it's much easier and much more understandable to "evolve" on gay marriage when you find out that your kid is gay than it is for people who "evolve" because of votes or poll numbers. But I guess for some people, changing such fundamental views for votes and power is probably pretty easy.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
