N. Korea threat - real or propaganda?

It brings this to mind, "No better friend no worse enemy"

I say this in jest, I would rather carpet bomb NK with neutron bombs than put boots on the ground.

Rio Linda?

It is a Rush Limbaugh term for low information citizens.

Mike Rosen just had an EMP "expert" on his show, about how it would ruin America if the North Koreans blew up a nuke high over the USA. No phone, no lights, no motor cars, not a single luxury. But do the NORK's have a delivery system? It would make more sense for them to explode a EMP bomb over South Korea before invading. Would limit our and ROK military ability and having millions of South Koreans distressed would further hamper efforts, probably more than a small nuke in Seoul harbor.

Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.

Back in College I lived for a while in Rio Linda.

I knew the Rush reference to Rio Linda, he started it when he was local on a Sacramento Radio station.

"Rio Linda".....IS "At the mall" America......sadly IMHO about 90% of our sheep citizens. THE key parameter (I assume the KOREANCOMS will put a nuclear weapon on an ICBM in the next few years with CHICOM help) is 5000 NM (distance from NK to Honolulu rounded up slightly). The CHICOMS will supply the warhead (they have many that will do Honolulu) but the NKCOMS will develop the bird (mostly). The old Cold War block (including Russia) is fully operational........the prudent COA is to provoke a land war and take NK out (IF CHICOMS will stay out
great shades of Viet Nam) and integrate the remains into South Korea. Lets be hopeful.....need to give the JARHEADS something to do after we leave the Middle East.....they bore easily.

If the Chicoms were going to bomb us, I think they would have done it when Mao was in charge rather than now when the US owes them billions.

If you are interested in learning about North Korea and how it supports itself since the Korean War, please take a listen to this. It is not dry, it is an interesting presentation. This was originally done in 2011, but nothing has changed except it's leader. It is a pattern that has worked for them for the past 60 years or so.

North Korea relies on charity to feed its starving people. But the country's elites like their luxuries — imported wine, fine china, dancing shoes.

To buy those things, they need foreign currency. (North Korean currency is worthless outside of North Korea.) To get foreign currency, they need to sell things to the outside world. But North Korea's industrial base is a disaster, and the country doesn't grow enough food to feed itself.

On today's Planet Money, we look at the ways North Korea's leaders have managed to keep foreign currency flowing into the country. Their strategies include manufacturing drugs, counterfeiting U.S. dollars, and selling gigantic statues to foreign leaders.
