North Carolina House Speaker Kills Bill To Create State Religion

North Carolina state Rep. Carl Ford (R-China Grove), a co-author of a North Carolina legislative proposal designed to establish a state religion.

The Republican speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives killed legislation on Thursday that aimed to establish an official state religion.

House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-Charlotte) announced Thursday afternoon that the bill would not be receiving a vote in the full House, effectively dropping the measure. Loretta Boniti, a reporter for News 14 Carolina, broke the news on Twitter, and it was confirmed in a breaking news alert posted on the home page of wral.com, a Raleigh-based television station. Tillis' decision followed several days of national media attention on the bill, which also said that the state government did not have to listen to federal court rulings and was exempt from the requirements of the First Amendment.

The bill, which was drafted by state Reps. Carl Ford (R-China Grove) and Harry Warren (R-Salisbury), was intended to address an issue in Rowan County, where the ACLU has filed a lawsuit against the county commission in an attempt to block commissioners from having a Christian prayer at the beginning of meetings.

Dang... Every time I think they can't get more bat-sh*t-crazy, they prove me wrong... The next thing you know, they will be firing on Fort Sumter...

So many unconstitutional bills--so little time...

But I can hardly wait for all unconstitutional abortion-limiting bills to get thrown out. Should be a fun summer...

North Carolina House Speaker Kills Bill To Create State Religion.

Why the outrage? The bill was killed. I am beginning to wonder if you actually read half of the articles that you post.

Me thinks that you are so blinded by your hate that you will post anything that you think may make a conservative look bad.

I'm thinking that you might want to ease up on the amount of Vodka in your morning prune juice.

Oh, the bill was introduced several days ago, and I reported on it then... I think it's fabulous that the Speaker of the House had sense enough to stop the loonies before it got any further...

"Making conservatives look bad?".... They do it without any help from me... And it's such a "target-rich environment"....

This should go both ways...

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Why yes...Every now and then someone on the TeaPublican side figures out that passing one more unconstitutional bill will just end up costing the state hundreds of thousands of dollars to defind something that is indefensible; and they would rather see the money stay in the state coffers...

On the other hand, there are a LOT more that pass stacks of laws, (North Dakota being a recent example), that they KNOW aren't going to pass constitutional muster because they would rather "prove a point" than keep the money in the state for its citizens...

Guess which category outnumbers the other?

And the bill was introduced to make a point about states rights. No one expected it to pass... that's precisely why the "bat-sh*t-crazy GOTP Teapublican" killed it... the point was made... and evidently the point was missed by statists like Lady Jazzer.

Talk about helping the GOP make a point... talk about egg on ones face... Lady Jazzer... you're golden.

Waiting for Armageddon since 33 AD
