Obama got his vote - and lost!!!

The Senate today, in a bipartisan fashion, defeated two of Obama's agenda items with regards to disarming the citizens of the States. The first amendment to be defeated was the so called "universal" background check to "close the gun show loophole" and the second was an amendment seeking to reinstate the failed federal ban on scary looking semi-automatic firearms based on their cosmetic appearance.

Obama got what he called for in his State of the Union speech - a vote on the floor of the Senate on his proposals to disarm law abiding citizens of the Union. And he lost. Unsurprisingly, those who just lost the election are vowing to not give up, bless their gun grabbing black hearts.

Now all we need is for the Senators to stand firm on comprehensive amnesty for those who are residing in the Union in violation of its laws and they might have a chance of restoring some of the trust which they have been so cavalier about during the course of this administration.

Today was a good day for the citizens of the States. Democrats and Republicans joined together to defeat the latest assault of the collectivists against the 2nd Amendment.

Harry Reid mandated that it had to be a 60 vote. Mistake? Or does the NRA still own the Nevada senator?

Which of course is yet another lie. The GOP filibustered to prevent the bill being supported by 82% of the american public from being voted on by their elected representatives. Once again special interests triumph over the American public.

Ask Senator Mark Udall about his vote on the new AWB. IS he evolving or up for re election?

Sure... here's your filibuster...

Update: Finally, here’s the roll on the AWB. Just one Republican, Mark Kirk, voted yes. The 16(!) Democrats (including Angus King, a nominal independent) voting no:

Baucus
Begich
Bennet
Donnelly
Hagan
Heinrich
Heitkamp
Johnson
King
Landrieu
Manchin
Pryor
Tester
Udall, M.
Udall, T.
Warner

The AWB goes down 40/60. Remember a few weeks ago when Reid claimed they didn’t have even 40 votes for it? He wasn’t kidding. They barely ended up with that much.

And sure... Reid was forced to pull the bill...

Reid will pull the entire gun bill from floor, likely tomorrow. No final vote. It will remain on leg calendar. Brought up some other time.

And sure... it was ONLY the GOP who blocked these various bills and amendments... gee... sounds like the Dems knocked down a comprimise that was crafted by Dems and Republicans...

Highly unlikely that anything will pass today: The GOP alternative to Toomey/Manchin, sponsored by Grassley, Cruz, and Ayotte, among others, fails 52/48. Assuming all Republicans voted yes, that means seven Democrats joined them. The four who voted no on Toomey/Manchin are safe bets; who were the other three? Stay tuned.

Oh... and sure... the Democrats were lied to...

“The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill,” Mr. Obama said in the White House rose garden about 90 minutes after the vote. “It came down to politics.”

You mean the crop of Democrat politicians in the Senate are that clueless?

Once again representative republic government foils the ambitions of the anti-constitutionalists.

Once again it had a MAJORITY in the Senate, but the obstructionists...(including four Democrats, who will now find themselves on "the list" for replacement)...blocked it with a filibuster.

I hope the GOP--and the NRA--can't possibly think this is the end of it... There will be a reckoning with the 92% of the people that wanted something done. And the obstructionists will find their numbers steadily diminishing. And ultimately, there WILL be universal background checks; magazine limits; assault weapons limitations; and harsh penalties for straw-purchasers and traffickers.

It's not over... And it will happen over and over again until it passes...

Gee with any luck, we can match the record of 37 attempts at repealing ObamaCare.

Both Colorado Dem senators voted against the AWB. Udall supported Clinton's AWB. Has he evolved? Time to primary Udall? And Udall was easily expected to win in 2014.

Udall had a safe seat and he still voted against Obama! (Who are the Dem Senate whips and why haven't they been sacked?) Colorado chose gun control but its senators didn't
