A new AWB was also voted on today and also a national concealed carry reciprocity was also voted down today. Keep up.

I don't know of many who expected the ban on assault type weapons to pass, I was speaking to the background checks bill.

I am pretty sure they are mostly concerned with getting reelected.

The same way Obama had nothing to say about any gun related legislation during his last campaign.

Very astute.

If so many were for common sense gun control, why didn't Barack run on it? Why didn't he promise universal background checks before the election?

Glad to see our system of checks and balances is not entirely broken.
Probably not the last we'll hear about it but a small victory none the less.

So Harry Reid voted down his own bill? This is rich. Barack must be pissed. Can't even keep the lead Senate Democrat on the program.

Let's see how Obama protected the children in Chicago...

In 1999 Obama did not support adult prosecution for young criminals who shot a gun in school premises. According to Obama's view, criminals under the age of 18 who perpetrate gun-related crimes at school should be tried as juveniles.

Illinois State Senate records show that in 1999 a 37-year-old Obama withheld support for tougher penalties for violent crimes committed near schools.

In 1999, tougher crime legislation was passed in Illinois in response to the Columbine High School shooting. The measure passed overwhelmingly in the Illinois State Senate in a 52-1 vote. But without Barack Obama's support. Five members, including state senator Obama, voted "present" and did not support the anti-crime bill aimed at protecting school children.

"SB 759 provided that anyone 15 years of age or older charged with aggravated battery with a weapon in school or within 1,000 feet of a school would be charged as an adult."

Still don't get it?

"It should be noted Harry Reid’s “no” vote was procedural so he can bring the bill back for another vote."

A little point of politics. A couple of years ago Lefties were cheering Reid's win over Sharron Angle. If Reid had lost, NY Senator Chuck Schumer would likely have been the new Dem leader of the Senate. Chuck doesn't owe the NRA anything, think he would have botched up the vote yesterday? Not likely. So by Harry winning, Barack lost.

 The Senators who shut down the background checks represented only 38% percent of the country. Thank you founding fathers!!!!
:woo hoo:
