Republicans' Hypocrisy Exposed
Ted Cruz, Bill Flores Asked For Federal Aid After Texas Explosion, But Voted Against Sandy Relief

A pair of Republican lawmakers who voted against federal aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy are now looking for federal aid in the wake of the deadly explosion in West, Texas.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz lambasted the Sandy Aid package, voting against the measure in January. Cruz issued a statement explaining that he voted against the aid because it included a number of spending measures that were not related to disaster relief, including "Smithsonian repairs, upgrades to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration airplanes, and more funding for Head Start."

Cruz said that he was "working to ensure that all available resources are marshaled to deal with the horrific loss of life and suffering that we've seen" after an explosion at a fertilizer plant in Texas leveled the plant and nearby houses and business, claiming the lives of at least a dozen people and injuring hundreds more.

Rep. Bill Flores, who represents West, also voted against the Sandy relief package but is now requesting federal aid for the disaster in his home district. Flores said Thursday that members of Congress with whom he has been in touch have pledged assistance.

After Flores voted against the Sandy aid package, he justified his vote by saying the package was "too large" and did "more than meet the immediate needs of Sandy victims."

Wow... We don' wan' no steenkin' aid for dose Yankees, but we sho' does need it now that this plant (that hasn't been inspected in 35 years, and lied to government inspectors about the dangers of explosion--so close to inhabited areas) has blown up and wiped out a good portion of the town.

Amazing, isn't it?

The bills couldn't have been written differently? Or had a lot less pork?

Another outrage of the day dud.

Oh, I think "payback is going to be a b*tch..." And those hypocritical guys are going to regret their penny-wise/dollar-foolish actions... And it will be their fellow GOTP'ers that will do it to them...

So entertaining...

Comment on the OP: Of COURSE aid shouldn't be approved if it's got anything more than aid for the disaster itself and surrounding damage. DUH!

Plus the aid for West, Texas would be billions of dollars cheaper. You could probably rebuild West, Texas for the cost of a few beach side homes on Long Island.

Nobody had a problem passing an aid package for Sandy, but a lot of people had problems with the pork attached. Oh, but it should all be about "payback".
