So-o-o, I'm reading SC post in the "Ring".....11 Things my son taught me about life and business.
In reading the narrative, I was thinking "why can't this be in the Courthouse?" (SC elected the ring because of content)
The thought provoking musings were dead on and profound and I began to wonder.....WHY is a mere word so offensive?
This specific word can be utilized in a myriad of ways and it's versatility is astounding.....and YET IT IS OFFENSIVE.....
I simply can NOT wrap my mind around the fact that buckets of blood, body parts, rape, mayhem and murder, and vast amounts of violence are acceptable in movies, videos games, TV and in the media in general, BUT the fabulous word
f--k is forbidden.....?????
Is fu-- a faux pas or is it just fabulous??? :Censored :Censored
It is a fabulous word! But it's still a "taboo" word, one that offends I think a lot of times merely for the sake of people to have something to be offended about. Words are just words and are only offensive when we choose to take them personally, use them as leverage to be morally superior, or the person hurling them at us is someone whom we love and respect and they are trying to hurt us as deeply as possible (during one of my earliest fights with hubby he said "F*** you" and walked off - the next time we spoke several hours later I told him the next time he said that it would be our last conversation as husband and wife so choose it carefully as that hurt more than the stupid subject about which we were fighting). It wasn't the word, it was the intention and meaning behind it that was offensive - that he would dismiss my feelings and opinion that quickly and easily.
Honestly, that article could've gone in either forum, but I was in a hurry and just made the safer, more conservative choice. Also, I was thinking that I will start sharing a whole lot more content from Erika, as she's the bomb!, and I won't have to worry about starring out her articles when I post them. (If you haven't checked out the
world's best pie chart
poster she's selling right now, I highly recommend it. If you don't mind dirty dirty language! Her description of it: "It’s less expensive than a hooker, lasts longer than an orgasm (also much easier to frame), not nearly as nice as a pair of Joe’s Jeans but fits even when you’re having a fat day.") lol
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
I've been thinking about words and the power they hold a lot lately. Like that tape of Samuel Jackson trying to get a reporter to say the "N" word, or our instant offense as women at the "C". Actually, it was that one that got me started. We were skiing with some Aussies (men) and they called each other that often. After a while, the word lost its power to offend and was just another word.
