May Day of peaceful protests grows rowdier at night

Seattle police were determined during the day to let protesters peacefully move about the city while not tolerating lawbreaking affecting property and peoples’ safety. By nightfall, police were using pepper spray and pushing protesters back. The night ended with 18 arrests and eight officers.

Hundreds of sign-carrying, flag-waving demonstrators jammed downtown streets Wednesday in a series of May Day marches and rallies — some at the peak of afternoon rush hour — protesting capitalism, promoting worker rights and pushing for changes in federal immigration laws.

By evening’s end Wednesday, police were pushing the mob back using pepper spray, there were 18 arrests and eight officers injured — mostly scrapes and bruises — and the streets were littered with debris.

One advantage of snow in May in Denver... the fruits don't ripen this quickly.

I love the "protestinng capitalism" part. If any of these fools were smart enough, or ambitious enough to start their own businesses, they would wake up the next day loving capitalism. But that's a big fat IF.

But DHS is all worried about TEA Party types. Don't they know Republican voters are just like their politicians, all talk, no action?

I'm sure that LJ has a long list of all acts of violence perpetrated by self described tea party people. I'm still waiting to see it though.

The better question is this - How many tea party protesters have been arrested during a protest? When you look up tea party violence, it is often a result of anti-TP protesters being confrontational. Last I heard there was about 2400 OWS protesters arrested. And don't tell me the cops are pro-TP... they get paid with tax dollars.
