"Among 15-19 year-olds, San Diego County ranks second in chlamydia cases in California, and ranks sixth in gonorrhea cases. The state is rampant with STDs; syphilis cases zoomed 18% from 2010 to 2011, Chlamydia rose 5% and gonorrhea rose 1.5%.



The news of the expanded program follows Tuesday’s announcement by the FDA of their approval of sale of the morning-after pill to girls as young as 15.



Amy Moy, vice president of public affairs of the California Family Health Council said, "It's really important that we all share with youth in our lives that abstinence is the most effective way to avoid sexually transmitted infection and unintended pregnancy. But we know that teens are engaging in sexual activity, and we just want to help them be as safe as possible and not keep our heads in the sand and pretend there isn't a problem."

Good point. If teens use Plan B instead of condoms for birth control, you will see more outbreaks like this.

I don't think you will be seeing a lot of teenagers using plan B on a regular basis, the pill is very expensive. But, condoms are cheap.

AHEM.....I believe you are neglecting to INCLUDE oral sex in this equation and most teenagers believe oral sex is like a good nite kiss....
55% of the above mentioned group (15-19 YO)...are having casual contact as BJ's.

Good point. VD can spread orally and it isn't common to use condoms for oral sex.

What is the central point? You started the thread. It looked to me that it was about sexually transmitted disease and promiscuity. The latter would be a parenting and decision making fault. Republicans and Democrats have nothing to do with it. Heck half of them aren't old enough to declare partisanship.

THANK YOU for asking......I guess I missed the point also....the sweeping statement seems somewhat silly.JMO

I'm thinking boys will start carrying plan B as a more desireable alternative to those fun condoms. "If you love me, you'll take one of these instead of making me use a condom".

Same issue....those pills are expensive to just be carrying around in your pocket....they run $35-$60 per pill......
