Bill Richardson: Ted Cruz Shouldn't Be Described As Hispanic

Well Bill, he's more Hispanic than Elizabeth Warren is Cherokee, and he's just as much Hispanic as Obama is black.

He’s anti-immigration . Almost every Hispanic in the country wants to see immigration reform. No, I don’t think he should be defined as a Hispanic. He’s a politician from Texas. A conservative state.

So obviously since he is white first (unlike Obama), and has a racist southern accent, and has TP support, there's no way we should call this guy Hispanic. Thanks for clearing that up for us Huffrag and Bill "I'm a real Hispanic" Richardson. :thumbsup:

Irony? When I first heard about Bill Richardson running for President, I didn't realize he was Hispanic. Sounds like an old white guys name.

Doesn't it seem a bit, I don't know, racist, to say that a person of a certain ethnic heritage should have a certain political outlook?

I thought he was Canadian? He was born after all in Calgary, to a Cuban father and American mother. So is he considered to be Canadian, Cuban or US?

I thought the thread was about his ethnicity.

Cruz says he is an American and eligible to become President. Irony for the Truthers after Obama and Kenya etc.

That's what hit me when I read the Huffpuff description. They had to make sure they mentioned his southern accent (which they didn't mention when Obama and Clinton suddenly had southern accents)... and of course since he has tea party support, there is no possible way he should be considered a Hispanic.

According to "progressive" interpretation, he is a natural born citizen regardless of where he was born because one parent is a citizen of the United States, right?

I personally don't think that either he or Rubio are natural born citizens, for the same reason that I don't think Obama is one, but that opinion is one which has been consistently disparaged by those who don't care if the Constitution is being followed or not.

Ted Cruz is not a stereotypical Hispanic. Don't the liberals know that stereotyping is a major component of racism?
Surely liberals are not racist?!?! Maybe Democrats have not changed that much after all.

I don't know where you find a clear definition of a natural born citizen in the constitution. It's not very clear, IMO.

The simple way I look at it is you are either a citizen at birth, or after birth (naturalized). Sure, there are a lot of sub categories there, but I don't see them defined in the constitution.

So unless I see something else that makes the constitution clearer, I think you are a natural born citizen if you are a citizen at birth.

And that means all of them; Obama, Cruz, Rubio, Romney, McCain and whoever else I'm missing are natural born citizens because they were citizens by birth. That could mean being born outside the US but have only one parent that is a citizen (as for Cruz), or being born in the US with neither parent a citizen like Rubio (though I'm not sure even that has been clarified).

I guess if Cruz or Rubio were nominated as a presidential candidates then we'll start seeing Democrat "birthers". If they take it to the courts, let the courts decide. But I think the courts would rule them qualified based on everything I've read about it.
