He was right to say the IRS requires absolute integrity, especially since it's NOT an idependent agency.Obama, May 13: If, in fact, IRS personnel engaged in the kind of practices that had been reported on and were intentionally targeting conservative groups, then that’s outrageous and there’s no place for it. And they have to be held fully accountable, because the IRS as an independent agency requires absolute integrity, and people have to have confidence that they’re applying it in a non-partisan way — applying the laws in a non-partisan way.
So why is this distinction important? Because Obama wants us all to believe the government, headed by himself, is not connected to the targetting of conservative groups... that would be tyrannical, which he just told us won't happen. Obama and Carney love to play these little word games and hope tthey can slip in some lies without our noticing... not this time.Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, had previously called the IRS “an independent enforcement agency with only two political appointees,” during a press briefing on May 10. But as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal have both pointed out, the IRS is not a completely “independent agency.”
Not even the USA.gov Web page on “Independent Agencies and Government Corporations” lists the IRS. And that’s the site to which the White House’s own Web page on “Federal Agencies & Commissions” directs visitors.
