Woolwich beheading simply a mundane act of violence

Of course it was...

In taking mundane acts of violence and setting them on a global stage, we not only politicise them, we risk validating the furies that drive them. Closing down the internet to starve terrorist acts of publicity is not feasible, and stifles the debate that should be taking place peacefully. But we do have the option to exercise self-restraint in the aftermath, to control the impulse to hyperbole. We can deny the terrorist the megaphone of exaggeration and hysteria. When Cameron yesterday said we should defy terror by going about our normal business, he was right. Why did he not do so?

It is this echo chamber of horror, set up by the media, public figures and government, that does much of terrorism's job for it. It converts mere crimes into significant acts. It turns criminals into heroes in the eyes of their admirers. It takes violence and graces it with the terms of a political debate. The danger is that this debate is one the terrorist might sometimes win.

I'm not sure why the wacky right is turning this into a terrorist incident.

“The only reason we have killed this man today is because Muslims are dying daily by British soldiers.

“And this British soldier is one. It is an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

“By Allah, we swear by the almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you until you leave us alone.

“So what if we want to live by the Sharia in Muslim lands? Why does that mean you must follow us and chase us and call us extremists and kill us?

“Rather you lot are extreme. You are the ones that when you drop a bomb you think it hits one person?

“Or rather your bomb wipes out a whole family?

“This is the reality. By Allah if I saw your mother today with a buggy I would help her up the stairs. This is my nature…

“Through many passages in the (Arabic) Koran we must fight them as they fight us.

“An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

“I apologise that women had to witness this today but in our lands women have to see the same.

“You people will never be safe. Remove your governments, they don’t care about you.

“You think David Cameron is going to get caught in the street when we start busting our guns?

“You think politicians are going to die?

“No, it’s going to be the average guy, like you and your children.

“So get rid of them. Tell them to bring our troops back so can all live in peace.

“So leave our lands and we can all live in peace.

“That’s all I have to say.

“Allah’s peace and blessings be upon you.”

(by use of public record)

This is not political or religious in any way. Simply a crime committed by a common thug.

Have to wonder if GB will survive. Or for that matter, Sweden.

"(Reuters) - Sweden's worst riots in years might benefit a far-right party in elections next year if scenes of immigrants burning cars and smashing up buildings cause voters to rethink their traditional welcome to foreigners."

It was good to see thousands of Muslims marching against the violent act.

"A 22-year-old man has been charged on suspicion of making malicious comments on Facebook following the [brutal public murder by jihadists -EV] of British soldier Lee Rigby.

Benjamin Flatters, of Lincoln, was arrested last night [and charged] after complaints were made to Lincolnshire Police about comments made on Facebook, which were allegedly of a racist or anti-religious nature...."....................

"
“The men were arrested under the Public Order Act on suspicion of inciting racial or religious hatred. Our inquiries into these comments continue.

“These comments were directed against a section of our community. Comments such as these are completely unacceptable and only cause more harm to our community in Bristol.

“People should stop and think about what they say on social media before making statements as the consequences could be serious.” "......................

Wow. Making anti-religious comments on public forums can get you arrested in the UK? I don't like that one bit. I think it is stupid to do, but not a jailable crime.

Mike Rosen on 850KOA today was talking about Mark Steyn's piece of this attack. It is amazing to see how Britain press and goverment were backpedaling from the Muslim identification and refusing to report "Allah Akbar". While it is wrong to blame everyone in the religion for the acts of a couple madmen, it is also wrong to censor the news.

Those sort of people should be arrested. Do you know how insensitive that sort of public ridicule can be?

"As of last Friday, according to the Mail, eleven persons had been picked up for anti-Muslim speech crimes. Among them were two Bristol men, aged 22 and 23, who had posted tweets “of an allegedly racist or anti-religious nature” and who had been taken into custody “under the Public Order Act on suspicion of inciting racial or religious hatred.” The Mail quoted a detective inspector as saying that the men’s tweets, which had been “directed against a section of our community,” were “completely unacceptable,” as they “cause…harm to our community.” The cop warned: “People should stop and think about what they say on social media before making statements as the consequences could be serious.” . . ."..........................
