Report: How GOP lost young voters

"CLOSED-MINDED, RACIST, RIGID, OLD-FASHIONED, ‘SOLELY FOR THE RICH'"
Report: How GOP lost young voters

The College Republican National Committee on Monday will make public a detailed report — the result of extensive polling and focus groups — dissecting what went wrong for Republicans with young voters in the 2012 elections and how the party can improve its showing with that key demographic in the future. It’s not a pretty picture. In fact, it’s a “dismal present situation,” the report says.

The 95-page study, which looked at the party’s views on social and economic issues, as well as its messaging and outreach, echoes a March report on the election debacle issued by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, which presented a devastating assessment of the party’s current state of affairs.

But in some ways the new report from inside the GOP tent is even more scathing and ominous — since it comes from the party’s next generation.

The generation that grew up with a decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan appears less interested in defense spending and less concerned about terrorism than older leaders of the GOP, with only 17 percent of respondents from one survey calling keeping citizens safe from terrorism one of their top priorities for elected officials, and many opposing an expanded military.

And the recurring theme, both in the first disastrous post-mortem report, AND in this one on the "youth vote" is that they "need to do a better job communicating." LOL! They really think the people they're trying to win over didn't "get it"? That if they just "communicate the message better" it will change perceptions? They lost the youth-vote by 60%... Which just points out that your key demographic is even MORE obvious: "OLD, angry, racist, white guys..."

No, the GOTP sold the message, and the American people looked at it and said, "NO".... And before you start bashing "Politico" as a "questionable source", I'll remind you that this is the GOTP's OWN INTERNAL REPORT, done by a GOP polling firm...Politico is just reporting the contents of it. You don't like the results of the report, you should send an email to Reince Priebus...

This isn't just another "demographic" that they need to win in the next election...These are the kids that are going to turn into the adult voters of TOMORROW. The party has lost them on issues like gay marriage, the DIFFERENCE between legal and illegal Hispanics and comprehensive immigration reform, the party's so-called "economic message"--(“We’ve become the party that will pat you on your back when you make it, but won’t offer you a hand to help you get there.”; and: "unless you're a business owner, we basically don't give a sh*t about you"). Their own words to describe the party were brutal: "CLOSED-MINDED, RACIST, RIGID, OLD-FASHIONED"; and they cited again and again the “outrageous statements made by errant Republican voices", i.e., the extremist rhetoric of the wacko-birds.

Just keep overplaying your hand, as usual, on the so-called scandals, (which do nothing but make Obama haters hate him a little more, but do NOTHING to change the minds of the constituencies you're already losing). Good luck keeping that going until 2014, and/or 2016...

Once again, I jus' want you to keep doin' what yer doin'....

“[The] Republican Party has won the youth vote before and can absolutely win it again,” the report says, pointing to presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush who were competitive with that demographic. “But this will not occur without significant work to repair the damage done to the Republican brand among this age group over the last decade.”

This report is an eye opener... and good news for the GOP. It's a responsible guideline for the GOP to consider when going into the next election cycle. A hat tip to this report.

And liberals... keep doing the same things you're doing right now (the IRS, Benghazi, stifling freedom of speech, Holder)... you're batting a big zero with the American public right now.

Actually the American public are tuning out the Republican "outrages", and have expressed a desire for Congress to actually do their job, do something for the economy, get nominations passed and move the country forward rather than waste their taxpayer funded time on false outrages.

Really think so? Guess we will find out in the 2014 elections, but I am seeing more people tuning out all politics, both parties are the same, my vote doesn't make a difference, it is almost like two classes, the voters and what I like to call the American Idol crowd who know who Kim Kardasian is but don't know if Hick is the Governor or the Mayor still.

Why, yes, I DO think so. I realize it's a difficult concept, but the idea of spending 20% of the House's time renaming post offices, 15% of its time voting on the 38th attempt to repeal ObamaCare (which is going nowhere), and the rest of the time obstructing and investigating, I think the American people DO want Congress to do their damned jobs.

The main problem is that we can't agree on what their job actually is.

No, the TeaPublicans can't agree... The rest of the American people don't seem to have that problem.

Obama care:

A poll from the nonpartisan, nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation, conducted March 5-10, found that just 37 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the law while 40 percent have an unfavorable view.

Obama himself:

As his administration grapples with a series of recent controversies, President Obama faces a dip in his approval ratings, dropping to 45 percent approval from 48 percent a month ago, with more voters now disapproving than approving of his job performance, according to a new survey from Quinnipiac University.

Congress:

A poll earlier this week by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling found that Congress was less liked than genocidal warlord Genghis Khan, cockroaches and rock band Nickelback.

Again... We can't agree what their job actually is. You and I have very different views on what we'd like to see from Congress LJ, and both sides have valid points. Extremism on both sides seems to be at a peak, at least from what I've seen. Maybe if we (as a country) quit trying to take such big steps and worked on moderation, we could find some common ground.
