Hopefully this means Iran might back down from their nuclear weapons program and the rest of the world can remove sanctions and the Iranian economy improves.

And your hope is based on what historical evidence?

The Clergy has not been too pleased with the puppets in the spotlight for several years. FREE elections do not exist there and much of the balance of the Middle East. The clergy runs the nation IAW with the Koran.
Only dumed down American sheep believe otherwise........

The public was given the choice of the ultra religious versus the moderate religious and took the moderate. It is a good sign. Also consider the poor economy because of the sanctions and the demonstrations from a couple years ago. We may actually be seeing some movement to the center.

The mullahs allowed that to happen.

Don't think I'd hold my breath for too long.

It's a shell game - and the clerics from Qom are still in charge.

Agreed, this has all the earmarks of putting lipstick on a pig. The challenge is getting the UN to loosen its grip by removing sanctions and allowing more trade and international aid. On the surface it looks like the Iranian public has voted for a more moderate man to represent them (at least to Western eyes), meanwhile the same old s*** is still happening and the window dressing that has been laid over the truth is very thin to non-existent.

100% speculation on my part but, what better time to fake a softer, gentler approach than just before the Iranian nuke program becomes capable of producing weapons? Sanctions end, trade resumes, critical technologies are imported/smuggled in and Iran is suddenly the newest member of Club Nuke. How long will they keep the lid on the pot? Probably until they can perform a low yield test and pretend it was an earthquake or some sort or conventional explosion that was part of an industrial "accident."

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Ha... moderate means Rouhani will only talk about hating the Jews in private. If anybody... anybody thinks this guy is some sort of improvement in Iranian/World relations... then I have a casino in Mecca to sell you.
